Key Specs: Vosteed Raccoon
We reviewed the Raccoon from Vosteed earlier last year and today got our hands on the new Nitro-V version with Aluminum handles. It's a real looker of a knife and the aluminum adds a bit of refinement to an otherwise functional package.

It's another knife with the intriguing Nitro-V steel - cool name but what is it? Well, it's basically identical to AEB-L steel which has been common in custom knives for well over a decade now. It has high toughness and is easy to work. Many would say it's a perfect stainless steel for people that like carbon steels for its similar microstructure. Oh, and it’s cheap and widely available which is why I expect to see more of this stuff in the budget market.

Without doing an in-depth review on this, I can say the handle felt comfortable, with some nice chamfering and powder-coated finish. The blade is more than adequate for everyday EDC use and the action was smooth and reliable. We commented on the effectiveness of the button lock in the original Raccoon review, noting it worked remarkably well for such a low cost offering.

To sum up this Vosteed Raccoon review: All in all, I wouldn't say the Nitro-V Raccoon is breaking any major ground here but it's a budget blade I would heartily recommend that also comes in a wide variety of flavors to suit all tastes. Check it out at Vosteed or directly at Amazon.
