The Short Version
What I Like
- Hard-firing automatic action
- Comfortable, neutral aluminum handle
- Light feel for its size
- Distinctive single-edge stiletto profile
What to Consider
- One opening failed to lock during my demonstration
- Blue handle finish has picked up snail trails
I have owned this Pro-Tech Godfather for a couple of years. It is a lightweight beast of an automatic. If you had a Scarface or Godfather poster on your wall in college, or still do, this is the sort of switchblade you are going to be into.
Size and Weight
The Godfather is a beast, but it is also kind of light because of its aluminum handle.
Blade
The blade is a single-edge stiletto shape made from 154CM. There is a false edge along the top, but it is not double-edged.
It is extremely thin and stabby.
Blasted Blade
I got this one at Blade Show West. I do not know whether this release was exclusive to the show. The box refers to it as a blasted blade. I thought it might be coated, but maybe it is not. There was no documentation telling me what it had been blasted with.
It has a matte finish that will probably pick up snail trails from keys and loose change in your pocket. Carrying an expensive knife with other metal is fine with me. It picks up some pocket wear; there is nothing wrong with that.
Button
Press the button and it fires really hard.
The button area is recessed so that the button itself can sit flush with the handle. That is an awkward way to phrase it, but you can see what I mean. The button looks blasted, too, although I am not sure.
Lockup
Lockup had been a hundred percent for me, no matter how I was holding it. Then this one opening failed to lock, and I am glad I had the camera rolling.
So much for a hundred percent. We can joke about all those nines after the decimal point, but that opening did fail.
Handle
The solid blue aluminum handle looks anodized. It is about as nice, neutral and comfortable as they come.
Mine has picked up some snail trails, as matte anodization tends to do.
Pocket Clip
A magnet sticks to the pocket clip, so it is steel. I am going with blasted for its finish, too. It could be coated, but it looks like the other parts.
The clip is not swappable. It is tip-up, with the blade facing backward in the right pocket.
Deadlock
Here it is against an aluminum Deadlock. Yes, I have a Deadlock. Actually, I have two. Some people may have more, and that is fine. I am trying not to covet the neighbors’ Deadlocks, particularly that titanium Model B.
Bounty Hunter
The Bounty Hunter is another one I like. Then there is the Pro-Tech Don. I am getting all the favorites out here.
I like the Godfather. I love it. It is big, light and beautiful. That is about the highest praise I can give a knife without calling it a Deadlock or a Stump Lifter.
Where to Buy the Pro-Tech Godfather

Reviewed with a blasted blade and plain button; the linked version has a black DLC blade and pearl button.
