Nordic family company, Helle has long been associated with expertly crafted tools built for real-world use rather than display cabinets. They have a wide range of wood-handled fixed blades with either stick, semi or full tang blades that feature traditional Scandinavian materials (Sandvik steel, birch handles…). These offerings generally sit in the mid-to-higher level range with prices to suit.
Key Specs: Helle Nord
Today, we got our hands on the new Helle Nord, a full-tang true wilderness knife with a 5.7” 14C28N drop-point blade and just over 11 inches in total length. Make no mistake the Nord packs a serious punch, weighing in at 10.2 oz and ready to tackle anything out in the wild.
Initial impressions were positive – you can immediately appreciate the build quality and supremely balanced ergonomics of this hefty but functional tool. The blade is what you’d expect from Helle – thick and well ground, though the high polished look is not entirely our cup of tea. The curly birch handle both looks and feels outstanding, without clear attention to detail in its construction.
Complete with vegetable tanned leather sheath and all for around $250 the Helle Nord is a knife we’d heartily recommend. Check it out at Helle.
