Key Specs: Civivi Vision FG
We recently got our hands on the Civivi Vision FG and I have to say it’s darn impressive. This knife is a collaboration between WE Knife and Malaysian designer Snecx Tan. It’s a sweet looking folder that’s truly ambidextrous thanks to dual thumb studs and with well balanced ergo’s. The blade on this one is basically a wharncliffe style made from Civivi’s Nitro-V steel (think modified AEB-L or 13C26 steel) – not the best steel out there but plenty good for most daily applications. It’s also lacking some jimping on the spine but it’s not a dealbreaker.
But you’re not buying this knife the the blade steel, the main selling point is the amazing Civivi Superlock locking mechanism which is one of the strongest and effective lock types around. It utilizes a ramp-like bar that engages a spring-driven lock arm, allowing it to lock into a notch in the tang that’s rock solid. It’s pretty similar to Demko’s Shark Lock and while it takes some getting used to we found it works extremely well overall.
The scales are well made and pretty grippy as you’d expect from canvas micarta. The overall feel is solid and chunky and with a reasonably hefty weight to match at over 4 ounces. But all-in-all this is a very fidget-friendly knife, with nice actions all round. And as you’d expect from this brand, the value for money is top notch – the VisionFG can be had for around $80 which is a steal in today’s market for an innovative folder like this. Check it out with a number of colors and a beautiful Damascus option at Civivi.com.
